November 13 1930 - Notable Passengers

The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by L. D. Douglas, began a Pacific crossing upon sailing from Vancouver on November 13th, 1930. 

Cargo measured 2, 615 tons.

The ship carried a large passenger list of 740 aboard with 55 First Class, 42 Second Class, 21 Third Class and 622 Steerage. Many of the passengers were returning to the Far East for New Year’s celebrations.

The Roman Catholic Church of Canada had two groups of missionaries aboard the EMPRESS OF ASIA.  One party was led by Rt. Reverend Andre Defebre, Bishop of Ning Po, China, and was composed of four priests of the Redemptorist Order proceeding to Japan and China.  The other party consisted of 8 sisters of the Sisters de Notre Dame Des Anges, Lennoxville, Quebe, who were proceeding to Tsungming and Manchuria.
