May 19 1934 - Notable Passengers

The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by E. P. Green, began a Pacific crossing upon sailing from Vancouver on May 19th, 1934.  The ship carried 200 passengers.  Included among the passengers was a party of Priests and Sisters who were travelling to the Far East for missionary endeavours.

Major George Barton

Major Barton was en route to Tientsin.  He boarded the ship at Victoria where he was piped aboard by a piper from the Canadian Scottish Regiment.

Mrs. J. L. Hall

En route to Manila.

Dr. and Mrs. Hugh Keenleyside.

A renowned Canadian historian and diplomat, Dr. Keenleyside was travelling on a diplomatic assignment with the Canadian Legation at Tokyo.
