February 16 1929 - Notable Passengers
The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by A. J. Hailey, began a Pacific crossing upon sailing from Vancouver on February 16th, 1929. The ship was delayed at Vancouver several hours waiting for the arrival of the passenger and freight train and delayed from leaving Victoria by heavy fog.
Note of Interest:
The police met the ship at Victoria and removed a crewmember who was wanted in Vancouver.
The ship carried 60 First Class, 30 Second Class, 40 Third Class and 200 Steerage passengers.
Cargo measured 3,540 tons and over 3,000 bags of mail.
