March 23 1930 - Notable Passengers

The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by A. J. Hailey, concluded a Pacific crossing upon reaching Vancouver on March 23^rd, 1930.  A severe storm was encountered shortly after departing Yokohama.  On the bridge, windows were smashed and rails splintered.  Waves filled lifeboats on the boat deck and one day out of Yokohama it was necessary to reduce speed to two knots.  The storm resulted in the ship being delayed a full day. 

Cargo comprised 3,880 tons and 2,870 bales of raw silk.  At Victoria 75 tons of cargo was unloaded.

The EMPRESS OF ASIA carried 52 First Class, 28 Second Class, 12 Third Class and 319 Steerage passengers.
