February 15 1936 - Notable Passengers

The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by A. V. R. Lovegrove concluded a Pacific crossing upon reaching Vancouver on February 15th, 1936.  The ship arrived at Yokohama on February 5th; a day after an enormous snowstorm struck that city and Tokyo.  On the voyage from Japan the ship experienced unusually good winter weather with the exception of a short stormy period immediately after leaving Yokohama.  On this crossing the EMPRESS OF ASIA carried passengers, general cargo and mail.

Note of Interest:

Among the passengers were two shipwrecked sailors, Robert Crampton of Vancouver and James McKenzie of England.  Both men had survived the loss of the SS FORTHBRIDGE, a ship that was abandoned in January in the China Sea after catching fire.
