December 28 1930 - Notable Passengers
The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by L. D. Douglas, concluded a Pacific crossing upon reaching Vancouver on December 28th, 1930. An uneventful trip with normal winter weather was reported. Cargo comprised 1,750 tons of general merchandise.
The passenger list was extremely light, only a total of 157 persons with 14 First Class, 8 Second Class, 3 Third Class and 132 Steerage.
On this voyage Christmas was spent at sea and stairways, lounges and dining saloons were decorated for the season and the First Class dining room contained a large Christmas Tree.
The Chef and his staff prepared Christmas fare and the Baker constructed a tall, ornate and artistically crafted Christmas cake, several feet in height. When the ship reached Victoria, the cake was placed on display near the entrance to the main dining room.
