April 6 1936 - Notable Passengers
The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by A. V. R. Lovegrove concluded a Pacific crossing upon reaching Vancouver on April 6th, 1936. On the voyage home the ship encountered heavy fogs in the China Sea, cold weather off Japan and a strong southeaster storm with gale force winds two days off the coast of British Columbia. On this crossing the EMPRESS OF ASIA carried passengers, general cargo and mail.
While nearing British Columbia the EMPRESS OF ASIA heard distress calls from the burning ship TRICOLOR off Japan.
